The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme requires all qualifying businesses* to purchase allowances for every tonne of CO2 they emit.
A three-year introductory phase of this mandatory emissions trading scheme began in April 2010, during which allowances are being sold at a simple fixed price of £12 per tonne of CO2. After this introductory phase, participants will have to buy their allowances through auctions.
* Any business that has a half-hourly metered electricity supply needs to assess their level of participation in the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.
The deadline for the submission of your first Annual Report was 29th July 2011. Any participant who has submitted the reports by the deadline, but are concerned over the accuracy of the inputs or that they may have missed any items, there is still an opportunity to correct the Annual Report on the EA online registry. The EA will unlock the report to allow changes to be made up to 27th September 2011.
Energyquest can provide advice, support and data to help you manage your participation in the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme. Well help you to compile your annual reports and CO2 emissions forecasts.
We apply recognised formulas to calculate your CO2 emissions from energy consumption, using the accurate data we gather from your meters. We'll help you set targets for your carbon emissions, to ensure you keep within the allowances you've purchased. Every month we'll provide you with an up-to-date report on your carbon performance against target, so you can see how well you're doing. Such close monitoring also allows us to forecast your likely emissions out-turn for the year - as well as set emissions reduction targets for subsequent years.
At the end of each year we'll produce your annual report for submission to the CRC Administrator. To back-up your data you'll need to keep an evidence pack too, which Energyquest will compile and manage on your behalf.
Like any new scheme, the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme can seem daunting, but with expert support from Energyquest you'll soon become accustomed to its requirements. Then you can begin targeting realistic carbon reductions to help you climb up the CRC performance league table.
