Government Consultation on Amendments to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

The Government has launched a consultation to gauge opinions on the proposed changes to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme after it was announced last month in the Comprehensive Spending Review that the scheme would be simplified to reduce the burden on businesses and that the recycled payment mechanism would be removed.

The main proposed changes include:

  • extending the introductory phase by a year
  • postponing the start of phase 2 until 2013
  • removing the requirement for information disclosures

It is thought that the initial changes will be implemented by April 2011 with further simplifications made prior to the start of phase 2 of the scheme. Until such time it is important to remember that participants must remain compliant to the regulations currently in place.

The Consultation closes on 17th December 2010.
