Latest on the Solar subsidy changes

Following the recent announcement by the Government to change the criteria for Feed in Tariffs, that meant a reduction from 43p/kWh to 21p/kWh from 12th December 2011, the various bodies involved in the industry and environmental campaigners, Friends of the Earth, have challenged the Government in the High Courts.

The Feed in Tariffs (FITS) are paid by the energy companies to householders and communities to subsidise the generation of electricity from solar panels.

The level at which the FITS are paid is under review through consultation, although the Government has imposed the reduction to the FITS from 12 December 2011, as the budget was running out. However, this has been challenged in the High Courts and they have ruled that changing the Tariff before the end of the official consultation period was legally flawed.
